Classic Rock Band Headlines Ocean City Sunfest Music Lineup

to play

Festival season continues unabated on Delmarva, and Ocean City welcomes the return of its iconic fall event to Inlet this week.

The weather forecast calls for clear skies when Sunfest takes place Thursday through Sunday, October 20-23. The live music portion of the annual festival will feature six acts per day performing outdoors – three on the Beach Stage and three on the Mid Stage.

One of the musical highlights of Sunfest this year will be the headlining performance of national classic rock band Starship featuring Mickey Thomas on the beach stage at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 21.

Thomas and his band were originally scheduled to appear in May during Springfest, but they got watered down and couldn’t play their hits such as “We Built This City.” While their Springfest tickets cost between $27 and $57, fans will no doubt be pleased to know that admission to see them this Friday at Sunfest is free (as it is for all 24 performers).

Elsewhere in OC, the annual Ocean City Tribute Festival is also scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, October 20-23. It will take place inside the Clarion Resort Fontainebleu hotel in Ocean City. As usual, the hotel will welcome singers from all over the country paying homage to the music of yesteryear.

While the event was primarily focused on Elvis Presley when it started in 2014, it has grown over the years. This year’s edition will also feature singers who sound like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elton John, Tom Jones and more.

Tickets for the Ocean City Tribute Festival are sold as weekend passes and are priced at $199, $299, and $349 per person. Seating in the hotel’s ballroom will be divided into three sections with groups of tables, and capacity is just over 500 people (first come, first seated).

In Berlin, the Ocean Downs Casino will crown its own tribute event this week. The latest iteration of its annual Rocktober Friday concert series will take place outdoors at 7:30 p.m. on October 21 with a performance by Chicago, Illinois-based quartet Without U2 ($25). Expect faithful renditions of classics such as “Pride (In the Name of Love)”, “Beautiful Day” and more.

In the coastal county of Sussex, a free rockabilly concert is planned in Lewes. Irish Eyes at Anglers will present the long-awaited return of Eddie Dixon & the Dixonettes at 8.30pm on Friday 22nd October. The evening will also include special appearances by the band Hot Sauce and vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ed Shockley.

In a week, the first Towers Comedy Festival will be held Thursday through Saturday, November 3-5, in Rehoboth Beach. A host of performers are scheduled to yuk it up, with a highlight being famed comedian Tig Notaro. She will perform two concerts at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Friday, November 4 ($25 to $65).
