Due to the pandemic, related restrictions and the fact that several key festivals in Europe take place later than usual, the European Academy of Cinema announces the selection of feature films for 2021 European Cinema Prize in two stages: from the 40 current titles, a second part will appear in September. With 15 documentaries also being announced today, the films form this year’s selection of feature films and documentaries, all recommended for nomination.

The feature films were selected by a committee made up of the Academy Council and a wide range of invited European experts, whose names will be released after all feature films have been announced. The documentary films were selected by the members of the EFA board of directors Graziella Bildesheim (Italy) and Ada Solomon (Romania), director Katja Gauriloff (Finland), festival programmer Kathrin kohlstedde (Germany), artistic director of DokuFest Veton Nurkollari (Kosovo), artistic director IDFA Orwa Nyrabie (Netherlands), festival programmer Rada ešić (Bosnia and Herzegovina), director Rajesh Thinking (United Kingdom) and commercial agent Ana Vicente (UK).

At the same time, the European Film Academy is presenting a new VOD platform for all its members, which has been developed as part of an 18-month digital transformation program in 2021-2022, ensuring that the viewing process will become more user-friendly for all members. After all films have been announced, the more than 4,000 members will be able to see the selected films and vote for nominations in the European Film, Director, Actor, Actress and Screenwriter categories as well as for nominations in the European Documentary category. . Based on the votes of all members, the nominations will be made public on November 9 at the Seville European Film Festival. A jury of 8 members will choose the winners in the categories European Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, Make-up and Hairdressing, Original Music, Sound and Visual Effects.
