Fine Arts Preview: November 1-7

This week includes the Bjorling Music Festival concert, performances by the duo Bardin-Niskala, the Fall Band concert, a senior recital by Kyle Langer and the final week of the Art for All: the Swedish Experience in Mid-America exhibition. .

Chapel of Christ

Our Honor Festival brings together 250 students from 60 high schools in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Illinois and Wisconsin. The event includes clinics for teachers, workshops for teachers, rehearsals and a concert in Gustav’s beautiful Chapel of Christ. The Honor Groups will be under my direction, Dr. Heidi Johanna Miller and Dr. Karrin Meffert-Nelson. The final concert will feature the High School Honorary Orchestra and the famous Gustavus Wind Orchestra.

Duo Bardin-Niskala: “Innocence, loss and healing: songs my mother taught me”

The Gustavus Music Department is proud to welcome the Bardin-Niskala duo to Gustavus Adolphus College and Björling Recital Hall. Formed by An-Lin Bardin, cello & Naomi Niskala, piano; they will perform their concert “Of Innocence, Loss, and Healing: Songs My Mother Taught Me”.

Art for all: the Swedish experience in Central America

Hillström Museum

The Hillstrom Museum of Art presents Art for all: the Swedish experience in Central America, on display from September 13 to November 7, 2021. The exhibition, which was co-organized by the Museum with the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg, Kansas, features 60 paintings, drawings and prints by 20 leading Swedish American artists working in the late 19th and early 20th century.
