Jennifer Hudson honored at Palm Springs Film Awards


PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (CNS) – Jennifer Hudson will receive the Chairman’s Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards for her performance in “Respect,” festival organizers announced Monday.

The award will be presented in person on January 6 at the Palm Springs Convention Center and will kick off the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which runs through January 17.

Hudson is a two-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Oscar-winning actress, and Emmy-winning producer. Hudson’s landmark role as Effie in the film “Dreamgirls” earned her a Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, BAFTA and NAACP Image Award.

“Respect” follows Aretha Franklin’s career story from her childhood days singing in a church choir until her rise to international stardom. Hudson was also the executive producer of the film.

“In ‘Respect’, Jennifer Hudson brings Aretha Franklin’s rise from childhood gospel singer to international star to life. Hudson transforms into a soulful queen singing her heart out in this legendary performance,” said the festival president Harold Matzner.
