Top Musicians: Northbrook High School Students Selected for Honor


NORTHBROOK, IL – Three musicians from Northbrook Junior High School will join selected students from across the region to work with a special guest conductor and perform at the Illinois Music Educators Association’s District 7 festival at Libertyville High School.

Preparing to audition for this festival is a great learning experience, and the acceptance is a real achievement, according to a press release from the school. This year, two NBJH students were selected for the Junior Band: Ava Paek (8th grade, flute), Calen Anderson (8th grade, percussion). In addition, Chase Newman (6th grade, saxophone) was selected for the Junior Jazz Band.

Nine musicians from Northbrook Junior High auditioned for ILMEA District 7 festivals on October 8th. This year, the auditions included approximately 200 students from 51 schools to welcome the approximately 100 members of the District 7 Junior Band and District 7 Junior Jazz Band.

ILMEA District 7 Junior Band rehearses and performs together ONCE, on the same day. On Saturday, November 6, the selected students will meet at Libertyville High School to work with a special guest conductor. The concert takes place at noon and will be recorded and made available to families next week. The ILMEA Junior Jazz Band also rehearses for one day only. The District 7 Jazz Festival will take place on Saturday, November 20 at Glenbrook North HS.

All of the students who audition spend many extra hours preparing the audition material and deserve to be commended for being among the top musicians in Northern Illinois.
